Stairclimbing Sacktruck

For this project, the assignment was to develop a sack truck that could climb stairs electrically. At the start, we were given a strict budget and several existing products the design had to work with, including a box system and a battery.

We conducted extensive research on stair dimensions, climbing mechanisms, and ergonomics. One of our early ideas was to integrate some form of shock absorption, since it was essential to avoid damaging the stairs. To test this concept, we used bike/scooter shock absorbers to create a proof of concept. The test was successful, and the client showed interest in continuing with this direction.

This led to the most enjoyable part of the project: the engineering phase. Every component of the sack truck had to be fully designed, including drafts, simulations, and detailed refinements.

The biggest challenge was designing the enclosure for all electrical components. Through smart use of structural ribs and screw grommets, I ensured that all parts stayed securely in place and that the box was strong enough to support the weight of the entire sack truck.
